Planar

Comprised of square components and repeated dimensions, the Planar Chair uses these measurements to create the imagery of a cardboard box. This pun on material and form aids in providing a narrative to an otherwise simple and humble piece of furniture. Folded and slotted into place, the cardboard chair uses no adhesive in order to create a structural form.
The work of Donald Judd was influential in the creation of this project where the motifs of perfectly square components reference Judd's rigid and minimalist spirit. However, unlike Donald Judd, the ergonomics of the human figure are still taken into consideration. Slightly angled the chair addresses the needs of the user and attempts to describe comfort with such a manufactured material.
