An exercise of creating relationships in space, this sketch model demonstrates the visual abstraction founded by Rowena Reed Kostellow. Using 5-7 elements, a composition of rectilinear forms was created with a focus on maintaining visual hierarchy and balance in regard to the organization of plane, line, and volume.

A strong horizontal presence was the establishing dominant element, though it was painted a light gray to float the mass and reduce its visual weight. Instead, much of the visual dominance was transferred to the subordinate mass, that being the bright red line.
